"DeSantis has proven his “willingness to routinely use the machinery of the state to punish rivals,” explains Harvard government professor Steven Levitsky. “That’s authoritarianism at its core. That’s what authoritarians do.” "DeSantis, like other distrustful autocrats, keeps a tight circle of advisers, including his wife. And he goes through staff “like Sherman through Georgia,” says Mac Stipanovich, a veteran Florida Republican operative. In their book How Democracies Die, Levitsky and his colleague Daniel Ziblatt explain that authoritarians augment their power by capturing the referees—the press, the judiciary, the legislature—and then rewriting the rules." https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2023/05/ron-desantis-autocracy/
“This is absolutely disgusting,” Democratic Rep. Anna Eskamani said. “Her removal is a complete slap in the face to Orange and Osceola County residents and another example of Governor DeSantis eroding our local control and democracy. This politically motivated action by the Governor in a predominantly democratic part of the state should alarm everyone.” https://apnews.com/article/desantis-suspends-florida-prosecutor-monique-worrell-45d2f5955b87fb5c0e817d9da9133393#
On Page 553 in Project 2025, the federal government would initiate legal action against local officials if they didn't indict people under the laws that would be set up by the new authoritarian government. So even if the law was unconstitutional, they could still be indicted for not indicting people who didn't uphold WHATEVER LAW the authoritarian government would impose. Under the Project 2025 plan, there will no longer be the checks and balances in government that we take for granted today.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed four bills Wednesday restricting LGBTQ rights, including a measure that expands what critics have called the state’s “Don’t Say Gay” law and another that will ban transition-related care for minors. https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-politics-and-policy/desantis-signs-dont-say-gay-expansion-gender-affirming-care-ban-rcna84698
The landscape of abortion access in the United States continues to shift rapidly in the wake of the Supreme Court’s June 2022 ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade and eliminated the federal constitutional right to abortion. Since then, many state legislatures have created new abortion restrictions and bans, and many have begun enforcing existing ones. Research has long indicated that abortion bans of all types have the greatest impact on people in marginalized groups. Individuals who face systemic racism and other forms of oppression may encounter compounding barriers to obtaining an abortion. https://www.guttmacher.org/state-policy/explore/state-policies-abortion-bans
"OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma – All Oklahoma schools are required to teach the Bible and the Ten Commandments in their curriculums as of Thursday evening." https://www.cleveland.com/nation/2024/06/another-state-requires-public-schools-teach-the-bible-ten-commandments.html
Page 477 of Project 2025 says this: "Additionally, Congress should pass the Child Welfare Provider Inclusion Act to ensure that providers and organizations cannot be subjected to discrimination for providing adoption and foster care services based on their beliefs about marriage."
Women are dying due to lack of abortion care needed for complications with their pregnancies.
And it's harmful to children and families. Listen to one Jewish couples challenge to adopt, due to their religion.
